The replaceable-back elbow is constructed from a pipe or tube elbow with the sides made from 10 gauge material welded to the bend. The back of the elbow is also 10 gauge material and can be replaced as needed, and extra backplates are available at the time of purchase.

Benefits of using replaceable-back elbows

Replaceable-back elbows are an excellent solution for lesser abrasion applications and can last for years. This low change-rate means low maintenance, low cost, and reduced system downtime. If you do need to replace this type of elbow, it’s very quick and easy – you simply remove and replace the back, and it’s no more inconvenient than replacing an elbow fitted with compression couplings.

Replaceable-back elbow applications

Replaceable-back elbows are used in less abrasive applications, including chemicals, plastics, and grains. It’s best not to use this type of elbow if you are conveying food and are concerned about contamination as product can build up in the open voids around the sides.

Are replaceable-back elbows right for your pneumatic conveying system?

As with any elbow, you need to make sure a replaceable-back elbow is right for your system. For instance, Ceram-Back® elbows are around the same cost and could potentially provide more benefits. Choosing the right elbow depends on the design of your system, how many elbows you need, and the type of product you are conveying. If you have particular concerns about contamination, call and talk to an expert.
