WearSmart™ Elbows
With proprietary technology built directly into the coating of a Ceram-Back®️ elbow, WearSmart™ provides an external alert whenever the interior of the elbow has been significantly degraded due to “normal” abrasion. This removes all guesswork about the state of your conveying elbow and provides ample warning when it needs to be replaced—preventing unexpected blowouts and allowing you to plan for replacements and limit downtime.
*Normal Abrasion: elbows normally wear out in the middle third of the elbow over the back within 1″ of center.
WearSmart™ gives you real-time info on the state of wear within your ceramic coated abrasion resistant elbows, allowing you to plan for the cost of replacement parts and downtime well in advance. Plus, you’ll easily be able to prevent blowouts thanks to knowing the lifespan of your elbows.

When ordering WearSmart™ elbows:
- WearSmart™ is available only in new ceramic-coated, abrasion-resistant elbows, with lead wires installed—WearSmart™ technology cannot be retrofitted to existing elbows
- You will receive one main control box, with mount, for each new order that can be reused with future replacement orders of your WearSmart™ elbows
- To replace a WearSmart™ elbow, simply unplug the control box from the old elbow and connect it to the lead wire on your new WearSmart™ elbow.
How WearSmart™ elbows work
A lead wire is placed under the coating of our ceramic-coated, abrasion-resistant elbows. The lead is connected to a control box outside the elbow that has a clearly visible green indicator light. When the wear reaches the lead wire, a signal is sent to the control box, turning the indicator light red. Once the light changes, you know it’s time to order a new elbow and start planning for the replacement downtime.
